GM and its brands – Chevrolet, Buick, and GMC – have a penchant for creating BIG vehicles (just look at the HUMMER). When these brands go big, they make it easier for you and your brood to go home. If you need a large SUV to shuttle your family to work, school, sports, and back, here’s a list of the top GM SUVs with seven seats or more.
If you’re shopping with a mind to get the most bang for your buck, the 2025 Chevrolet Traverse and the 2025 GMC Acadia are two SUVs you should explore. Both have starting sticker prices that are less than $45,000, but the base model of the Chevy Traverse will be the most kind to your transportation budget. Both vehicles are mid-size SUVs with seven to eight seats, depending on the configurations. While the Chevrolet model has a more mainstream appeal, the GMC Acadia interior ranges from practical to sumptuous, especially when you consider the Denali trim. While the Acadia has slightly more cargo space behind the third row, the difference is almost negligible (23.57 vs 22.9), and when you fold all the seats, the Acadia and the Traverse have nearly identical measurements at 97.5 and 97.6, respectively.
If you need an SUV with a ton of interior space that still has an exterior design that is easy to maneuver through urban environments, the Buick Enclave is the SUV for you. The Buick Enclave is slightly smaller than the Traverse and the Acadia but has a narrower frame and a slightly shorter wheelbase. That translates into a smaller turning radius and a much easier parallel parking experience. It also means that passengers in the third row won’t have as much shoulder room as in larger models. The Buick Enclave has 22.9 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row, 57.1 behind the second row, and 97.5 cubic feet of space. So, despite it being the smallest 7-seat SUV on our list, it still has ample room to carry everything your family needs for an extended road trip.
On the flip side, the absolute largest models in the GM lineup are the GMC Yukon XL and the Chevrolet Suburban. Both full-size SUVs can seat seven to eight passengers in a cavernous cabin that has a ton of room to stretch out. There is a bit of a price gap between these two models, with the GMC Yukon XL starting roughly $5,000 above the Suburban, but if you’re after a luxe experience, the difference might be worth it. The Suburban has a ton of technology features and an interior design that is laden with features like open-pore wood trim, perforated leather, and heated and ventilated seats. However, the GMC Yukon XL takes things a step further, with high-end features such as massaging front-row seats.
As far as space goes, even adults will find the third row of both models comfortable, and they feature identical cargo area dimensions: 41.5 cubic feet of space behind the third row, a little under 94 cubic feet behind the second row, and 144.5 cubic feet of total cargo space.
The Yukon and the Suburban both have impressive towing capacities, with the Yukon XL maxing out at 8,400, depending on which engine you select. The Suburban has a max towing capacity of 7,800 pounds.
